Gold or Platinum
By Patricia Lee

For most people, nothing matches the beauty and symbolism of real gold. When buying gold, always check for the quality or karat mark, 14k or 18k that is imprinted on the inside of the ring. Yellow gold is a blend of gold, copper and silver. White gold is a blend of gold, zinc and copper, and either nickel or palladium. Pure 24 karat is often mixed with other metals for strength.

Platinum is an alternate option for couples looking for something different from the traditional gold rings. It is regaining popularity in the bridal jewelry market in designs that combine the traditional and modern styling.
