Wedding symbolizes the unity of two people no matter how different they are.
What better way to celebrate the uniqueness of a couple by throwing in a bit
of culture and tradition. Ask both families for traditional ideas if you want
to incorporate it into your wedding.
German
- During the engagement, both the bride and groom wear gold bands
- The toastmaster at the reception dressed in a suite decorated with flowers
and ribbon visits each guest to personally invite them. The bride and groom
may also pay a visit as well, bestowing small gifts
- Traditionally, the bride wore a heirloom gown, with her own elaborate crown
- The bride's mother will throw rice or dried peas over the bride. The number
of grains that stick in her gown represents the number of future grandchildren.
- On the morning of the wedding, a breakfast of bridal soup is served to the
guests. The groom then drives the bride to the ceremony
- At the reception, large napkins are given to the guests to take leftover
food home.
- At the reception, guest are given special plates to throw onto the floor.
As the groom sweeps up the broken plates, guests buy dances with the bride
(money is meant to help with the honeymoon).
Greece
- At the party before the wedding, the bride and groom sit under
a canopy of evergreens that symbolize the couple's everlasting love. The guests
are allowed to offer good wishes to to them.

- Crowns are placed on the bride's and groom's heads during the
ceremony. The crowns are made with flowers that are symbolic with purity to
symbolize their entrance into marriage.
- The groom, an honored guest (best man, or family member), friends, relatives
and musicians walk in a procession to the bride's house who is dressed by
her friends. The couple then lead the procession to the church.
- Greek Orthodox couples take three sips of wine and circle the alter three
times with the priest to symbolize the Trinity.
- During the wedding, the couple is showered with sugared almonds in the "Dance
of Isaiah".
