Bridesmaids' Luncheon
By Tamara Christion-Marable

The bridesmaids’ luncheon is hosted by the Bride, the Bride’s mother or an Aunt. As the name implies it is a party or luncheon for bridesmaids (no male attendants or guests) and is the Bride’s way of thanking them for their participation in her wedding. The luncheon usually takes place two days before your wedding day and may be held at a restaurant, private club, friend’s home, or any place where the group can gather. Since the purpose of the luncheon is to show your appreciation for having these ladies stand up for you on your special day now is the time to give out attendant’s gifts. It is not uncommon for the Bride to buy all of the hosiery, shoes, jewelry, or gloves and give these as gifts to her bridesmaids.

However, do your best to personalize your attendant’s gifts. Even if you decide to pay for accessory items that will complete your attendant’s wedding attire, remember to also include something extra -- something personal. Some excellent gift ideas include a timepiece, paper weight, antique lace handkerchief, book on their favorite hobby, crystal bud vase, crystal figurine or a keepsake which commemorates a special time in your bridesmaid’s life (all or most of which can be engraved or monogrammed).

Tamara Christion-Marable is the President of Essential Elegance, in Atlanta, Georgia.
