Any particular reason you are looking for a black dress? I ask because there are some beautiful dresses being made in color. I've seen a few gorgeous scarlet red dresses, for example. Maggie Sottero makes a beautiful gown called "Temptation" in scarlet red. Other designers are using red as well. You can turn the tables and have your bridesmaids in ivory (or black), with you in red or wine. If I were having an evening wedding, I'd be wearing a Ruby silk Temptation gown. :)
If you are choosing black because you like it, or because it will go with the bridesmaid dresses, you might consider one of the many gorgeous dresses that incorporate black and white together. Also, depending on where you are, a custom gown or just having one made from a pattern doesn't have to cost any more than any other gown. Many seamstresses will put together a dress based on several elements you love, in the fabric you choose, for reasonable rates.
